listing help

Listing Type

Please choose the correct type for your listing. For attractions that are both paid and free to visitors (such as an optional entry fee), and recurring events such as markets, choose “Free”.

Category

You can choose more than one category if it makes sense to do so. The first one listed becomes the “Default” which determines the map icon. There is no benefit in choosing unrelated categories.

Add phone and email (Paid listings)

Add the contact details that you want visitors to use to contact you. These are displayed on business and accommodation listings only.

Website (Paid listings)

Add the site where you want visitors to go to make bookings, etc, with the format https://name.co.nz. Once we’ve verified it, this cannot be changed.

Listing Title and Tagline

Where possible, use a descriptive title that includes a benefit, such as “BnB with lake views”.  Taglines are single sentence enticements, like a slogan, that adds to the title.

Listing text

You can describe your accommodation or business with up to 300 words for Business and Free Attraction listings and 50 words for Business Lite listings. Use your own voice and experiences to make it interesting and engaging. Use Return for new paragraphs and Shift + Return for a new line. Use Bold, Italics and other editing tools to make your listing easy to read.

Listing address

Type the address and select it from the dropdown. Alternatively, drag the marker on the map. Use the map zoom to show the location in a meaningful way. The zoom you choose is what visitors see.

Double-check the correct location is shown in the address bar!

By default, listings are shown on the map but the street address is not shown. If you want to show the address of your business, tick the box “Show street address”.

For natural features, only the approximate location is shown to visitors.

Add images

You can add up to 9 images in Business listings and up to 4 in Free Attraction listings by choosing them from a file (click “Select”), or dragging them into the image uploading area. Drag them to rearrange the order. The first image is used as the main image.

For best Search Engine Optimization (SEO), rename the files with a sensible name before uploading them. For example, rename the photo of your BnB’s kitchen as “yourbnbname-kitchen.jpeg”.

For best display results, choose landscape photos with large file sizes and .jpg or .jpeg file types. Web browsers can’t read iPhone image files so save them as .jpeg or .jpg before uploading them.

Add your business hours (Business listings)

If you have a business listing, share your opening hours here (click “Yes” to start. You can update them anytime. The timezone is set for all of New Zealand automatically and doesn’t need to be changed.

Add special offers (Business listings)

These are optional and displayed on Business listings.

Trail map and time (Walking & Cycling)

Create a trail map on Google MyMaps, adding points of interest, distances, and photos, then click “Embed on my site” under the three dots (⋮) at the top of the info box and copy the code into the box.
Add the time to allow for the trail in the box provided.

Choose your package

Community Event (free): for events run by a non-profit, charity, school, club, church, marae, council or community group, whether one-off or recurring. Up to 4 photos and a description of up to 5,000 characters. You’ll be asked to tick a box confirming your event qualifies.

Single Event (free until 3 November, then $29 per event): for one-off commercial events, including multi-day festivals, concerts, shows, expos and brand launches, whether ticketed or free to attend. Up to 9 photos, a full description, contact details and a booking link. Your listing stays up until the event has finished.

Regular Event (free until 3 November, then $79 a year): for commercial events that repeat, such as markets, night markets, weekly gigs and classes. Same features as Single Event, covering 12 months of dates.

Already listed by the Tripplanner team? Use the Claim button on your event’s page to take it over and upgrade it.

Event dates and times

Choose the start and end dates. For a one-day event, the end date is the same as the start date (it fills in for you). Your listing comes down the day after the end date, and you’ll get an email with a link to renew it if the event runs again. Tick “All day”, or set the start and end times. If the times change from day to day, tick “Different Event Times?” and set each day separately. Regular Event listings must be set to Recurring, with the days they run.

Recurring events

Every package works for one-off and repeating events. For something that repeats, like a weekly market or a monthly gig, tick “Yes” under “Recurring Event?” and choose how often it repeats. Then choose when it stops, after a number of occurrences or on an end date. Please use one recurring listing rather than adding each date separately.

Event title

Say what it is and where, for example “Matakana Village Farmers Market”.

Event description

Tell visitors what’s happening and who it suits. Include the cost (or that it’s free), and anything they should bring or know, such as parking, accessibility or wet-weather plans. Free Event allows up to 5,000 characters, Ticketed Event Lite up to 1,000 and Ticketed Event up to 3,000. Use Return for new paragraphs and Shift + Return for a new line.

Photos

Ticketed Event allows up to 9 photos, Free Event up to 4, and Ticketed Event Lite includes one. The first photo is the main image. A real photo of the event works better than a poster. Choose landscape .jpg images, and rename files sensibly before uploading (for example “matakana-market-stalls.jpg”).

Category and tags

Choose the category that fits best. The first category you choose sets the map icon. Tags are optional keywords, such as “family friendly” or “live music”.

Venue address

Type the venue’s address and select it from the dropdown, or drag the marker on the map. Double-check the marker is on the venue, then zoom the map to show the location clearly. The zoom you choose is what visitors see.

Contact details and booking link (Ticketed Event)

Add a phone number or email for enquiries. Use “Booking Link” for the page where people can buy tickets or find more information, in the format https://….
